Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge News, Rumours, Specs, Release Date & Price

Till the year 2014, Samsung remained under severe criticism regarding the design and build quality of its smartphones. Samsung didn’t use a premium design and build quality even for its flagship devices. We used to see S series and Note series devices packed inside cheap plastic material and a same design on almost all Galaxy devices. With the Galaxy S5, Samsung didn’t do quite well and it was the time for Samsung to learn from its mistakes. Samsung did learn a great lesson and then 2015 was the year of change. We saw a huge shift from Samsung not only in terms of design, but in build quality. We saw the new Galaxy S flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge embodied by a matte aluminum alloy frame and Gorilla Glass 4 at front and back. Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge became the hot sellers of that time, the devices helped Samsung to lift up its lost profits and get back to the top-charts once again. Galaxy S6 series sales also helped Samsung to retake lead in the US market. After the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung used the same design, build on the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus. Now that the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are there for quite a long time, it’s time for us to look ahead towards the Galaxy S7. Samsung’s Edge concept turned out to be pretty successful, so we will be seeing an Edge variant of the S7 as well named as Galaxy S7 Edge.

Samsung is expected to release the next iteration of Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S7 inFebruary, 2016. Samsung has already started the firmware development of this device, which means that chances are high for this device to make an official appearance as early as February, 2016. Leakster Evleaks also posted some information regarding the testing ofGalaxy S7 and S7 Edge by At&t, which also puts life to the rumours of this device getting released early next year. Samsung will be putting a lot of efforts to make this device the best smartphone once again. We will be witnessing a premium design and build quality on Samsung’s upcoming smartphone. Samsung launched two variants of the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5. These variants were powered up with Exynos and Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. For the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus, Samsung said goodbye to Qualcomm and used its very own Exynos chipsets only. Samsung’s Exynos 7420 series, the chipset powering up the aforementioned flagship devices, definitely kicked off the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 in terms of performance and stability. Snapdragon 810 couldn’t do really great because of its over-heating issues and that probably was the reason for Samsung to stay away from it as well. Qualcomm has just announced its latest chipset, Snapdragon 820 which is a huge improvement of the 810 chipset. It looks like Samsung is going to take a u-turn and for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge it will be introducing the Snapdragon variants as well. So in short, we will be seeing 4 variants of these 2 devices. 2 based on Exynos and 2 based on Qualcomm.

So far there’s are numerous rumours and news about the next Galaxy flagship smartphone. The information available is good enough to give us an idea of what’s coming next. The rumours will definitely continue till the official launch of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, but we’ve summed up all the available (till today) information in this post for now. Let’s start off with the expected Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge hardware.

Have a look on: LG G5 News, Rumours, Specs, Release Date and Price

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Hardware

Samsung’s Exynos 8 Octa 8890 CPU or Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipsets will be found on-board. Exynos 8 Octa 8890 was announced almost a week back by Samsung. As claimed by Samsung, Exynos 8890 is 30% more performance efficient and 10% better power efficient as compared to the Exynos 7420 (its predecessor). Samsung used Exynos 7420 on Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and Note 5. On Exynos 7420 Samsung used Mali-T760MP8 GPU. On the Exynos 8890 Samsung used ARM Mali-T88MP12 GPU which is 50% better as compared to the MP8 configuration on Exynos 7420.

As far as the Snapdragon 820 Chipset is concerned, it also carries some massive improvements over its predecessor. Snapdragon 820 is seeing a 40% graphics bump from the Snapdragon 810 and seeing 30% better battery life.

A RAM of 4GB is expected to accompany this CPU architecture. The device will probably come out of the curtains in 32/64/128 GB internal storage variants without a microSD card slot option.

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Camera

Galaxy S7’s camera may carry Samsung’s latest BRITECELL technology. Samsung recently unveiled its BRITECELL camera technology at its investors forum. BRITECELL is said to carry enhanced light sensitivity in low light conditions. BRITECELL sensor is accompanied by Samsung’s Smart WDR technology which takes more detailed shots using multi-exposure. It also makes the user of Phase Detection Auto Focus for fast and accurate auto-focus capability. Use of smaller micron pixels helped Samsung to reduce the size of camera module by 17%, which means Samsung will be able to produce slimmer devices without compromising the camera module now. Samsung hasn’t confirmed whether it will be using this technology on the Galaxy S7 or not, but we expect the Galaxy S7 to be the very first Galaxy device to flaunt this new sensor.

Some rumors also suggested that Samsung might trim down the number of pixels from 16 MP to 12 MP. But now that the new BRITECELL is there, we won’t be seeing a low number of pixels since that uses micron pixels.

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Display

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will supposedly have a 5.2 inch QHD display. Galaxy S7’s display is also rumoured to carry a feature like Apple’s new force touch. Samsung filed a patent for a similar feature back in April, 2014. Samsung won’t be letting Apple take a lead in any single aspect, so there’s a great chance that Samsung might put this feature in its next Galaxy device.

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Software

Samsung is already working on the Marshmallow update for its current flagship devices. There ain’t a doubt that the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallowout of the box. We expect the device to carry the new Marshmallowed TouchWiz UI as well.
